Alex first performed with the Roseville Big Band on the June 16, 2012, Beacon Hill concert. He will also be featured on the June 19, 2012, concert in Central Park. A 2012 graduate of Roseville Area High School (RAHS), Alex is an active clarinetist, tenor saxophonist, and composer.The June Roseville Big Band concerts include "Rain Check," one of Alex's compositions that features him on the clarinet solo along with fellow RAHS 2012 graduate Laura Leppink on the flugelhorn.
Alex has played in the RAHS jazz bands throughout high school, and in his senior year, he led the RAHS jazz combo that won first place in the regional jazz festivals in Eau Claire and LaCrosse, Wisconin. At the 2012 Eau Claire Regional Jazz Festival, his tenor sax playing won him a Distinguished Soloist Award for his performance with the jazz combo.
Alex has played clarinet in Roseville school bands for eight years, including playing in the Wind Ensemble in his junior and senior years. Besides playing first chair in the wind ensemble as a senior and receiving superior ratings in the regional solo contests, Alex played in the All-Conference Orchestra in his junior and senior years.
In 2011 and 2012, Alex was a member of the University of Minnesota High School Honor Band, serving as Principal Clarinetist and Concertmaster in 2012. Alex was also the Principal Clarinetist and Concertmaster of the Minnesota Music Educators Association All-State Concert Band in 2011 and 2012.
Alex also volunteered at elementary and middle school summer band camps for two years.
