Melanie graduated from Roseville Area High School in 1992.

Melanie soloed on "All of Me" with the Roseville Big Band and joined Gina DeBenedet and Julie Linders on "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" on the June 16, 1992, concert in Roseville's Central Park. She also sang harmony with Gina's melody on "Longer".

A 1992 graduate of Roseville Area High School, Melanie sang in the Concert Choir and played violin in the Symphony Orchestra.

Melanie was also active in drama, including singing in the girls' trio in "Little Shop of Horrors" and playing violin in the pit orchestra for "Once Upon a Mattress".

Melanie went on to Simpson College, earning her undergraduate degree with a voice major. Among her performing credits at Simpson, Melanie had the lead in "Fantastiks" in her freshman year. While a student, she put her extensive dance training to good use as a choreographer for several Des Moines Opera productions.

Melanie earned her MFA degree from the University of Houston, specializing in opera directing.

She now lives and works in the Chicago area.
