Bass Saxophone

The camera looks down into the large bell of the bass sax, with the tall upper key stack at the right. Kay Foster plays her bass sax on "Don't Get Around Much Anymore."
Len Yaeger plays his bass sax on "Malaguena" on the August 1, 2006, Roseville Big Band concert. Engraving on the bell is visible from the front. The side view shows the soprano in front of the bass sax.

The bass saxophone is pitched an octave below the tenor. The fingering is fundamentally the same as for the other members of the saxophone family, although on some bass saxophones, such as the one Kay is playing in the first picture above, the double octave key mechanism is not automatic—the player's left thumb must press the correct octave key.
