Paul Willis

Paul plays toward the camera. Paul soloed on the Roseville Big Band's recording of "Jumpin' at the Woodside".

Paul plays all the woodwinds but has helped out the Roseville Big Band primarily on baritone and tenor saxes. Paul joined us for the April 4, 2000, recording session at Roseville Area High School and also played in the sax section at dances.

Paul has a variety of musical experience, spanning performing, teaching, composition, and instrument repair.

Perhaps you took lessons on clarinet, flute, oboe, or saxophone from him at Schmitt Music.

In the early 90's, you might have seen Paul leading the Paul Willis Jazz Quintet at the Loring Cafe, starting with free improvisation on bass flute to complement poetry, adding musicians with each successive set, and finally leading the full ensemble on his own compositions.

This January (2000) you could have seen him on soprano sax, performing with Eddie Berger at Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church.

If you saw a concert by the Calhoun Isles Community Band in the mid-90's, the clarinet section sounded richer because of Paul's alto clarinet playing in the ensemble.
