While attending Minneapolis South High School, from which he graduated in 1991, Andy played both lead trombone and bass trombone in the jazz band. He was also featured as a trombone soloist with the band. He also was a member of the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies symphony orchestra and the GTCYS brass quintet.

At Lawrence University, Andy had a double major in music and biology. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota medical school and still finds time to perform occasionally with the Saint Anthony Civic Orchestra and Symphony of the Lakes as well as the Roseville Big Band.

Andy also has been a bass trombonist in the Minneapolis Trombone Choir for several years. You might have also seen him playing in the Edina Big Band.

Andy first performed with the Roseville Big Band on the July 19, 1994, concert.
