Doc joined the band in the Spring of 1964, shortly after Mark Lammers organized the original Roseville Band. He played tenor sax in the band and second tenor sax in the Roseville Big Band until he retired in 1998 and moved to Florida. He rarely soloed with the band, preferring the role of section player.
He also participated in the large saxophone ensembles that Glen Newton organized and performed with a saxophone septet at St. Anthony Park United Methodist Church in 1989, as well as with a saxophone sextet that performed Arthur Frackenpohl's "Glad Rag" and "Sad Rag" on a Roseville Big Band concert in Central Park.
