House Brand Woodwind Ensemble - Final Concert

The House Brand Woodwind Ensemble performed four sets of concerts between March and December, 1981 and another concert June 2, 1982. For that concert and the final one, the group consisted of Univac employees Joe Stefani, Dick Peik, and Don Singley, clarinets; Glen Newton, French horn, flute, E-flat trumpet, and guitar; Cyndi Stenehjem, flute; and Jan Peterson, bass clarinet.

Glen Newton, the group's leader, commented on the group's final performance:

The HWBE's final concert, July 15, 1982, was videotaped at the Univac Park courtyard in Eagan. Its content was a combination of previous concerts, including a revision of "Pavane", with Dick's A clarinet covering the countermelodies Marv Root had played on the guitar in the original arrangement. We began the concert with "Signal", an antiphonal movement from Jan Koetsier's "Petite Suite", with Dick, Joe, and me each playing part of it while positioned at three different locations around the courtyard.

Later, Glen made a further revision of "Pavane", for brass quintet. The Tarrant Moss Brass Quintet, in which Glen played trumpet, played for Cyndi's wedding to Hugh Sparks, and she requested the quintet to include this piece, one of her all-time favorites. After that, the quintet performed it on several other occasions.
