In "Air", a movement of "The Elements" by Glen Newton, the first flute introduces a melody with no discernable tonal center --- not pure twelve-tone writing, but close to it. The notes of the second flute's harmony part were also chosen to avoid establishing a tonal center without using dissonance. The piano's moving 16th notes end at D, focusing the listener's attention on the unusual flute harmony and the synthesizer's return to the wind sound that began the movement.
