Year 2003 Roseville Big Band Public Dances:

Saturday, March 1: Putting On the Ritz at the Roseville Area High School, fundraising dance for the RAHS music program in the RAHS cafeteria at 1240 West County Road B-2 in Roseville, 8:00-11:30 p.m.; adults $10, students with ID $5 at the door. This is a fundraising dance for the RAHS music program, and dancers of all ages are welcome. Doors open at 6:30; free beginning dance lessons from 7:00-7:45 by Elaine and Paul Rybski. Saturday, March 22: Stompin' at the Simley fundraising dance for Inver Grove Heights schools music program, featuring the Roseville Big Band and the Rosetones vocal quartet, together with the River City Jazz Orchestra with vocalist Renee Marie Lande. The evening will feature non-stop music in a classic "battle of the bands" format, with the two big bands alternating selections. The dance will be held in the Cahill Court Cafeteria at Simley High School, 2920 East 80th Street in Inver Grove Heights; 8:00 p.m.-11:30 p.m.; free swing dance lessons from 7:00-7:50 by Simley Alumna Katie Ackert and Adam Hennen. Friday, April 25: Spring Rhapsody: An Evening in the Enchanted Garden, fundraising dinner and dance for Lyngblomsten Foundation, at the Prom Center Ballroom, 484 Inwood Avenue, Oakdale. Reception begins at 6:30, with piano music by Glen Newton. Dinner seating begins at 7:30, with dancing 8:30-11:00. Saturday, May 31 : Big Band Hangar Dance sponsored by the Commemorative Air Force, in hangar #3 at Fleming Field in S. St. Paul, 8:00-midnight. Saturday, September 13: Bomber's Moon Ball sponsored by the Commemorative Air Force, in hangar #3 at Fleming Field in S. Saturday, November 22: Children's Hospital Association Fifty-fourth Annual Ball, "Night of Stars", at the Radisson Riverfront in St. Paul. Enjoy cocktails starting at 6:30, then dance to the Roseville Big Band before dinner when the doors to the Minnesota Ballroom open at 7:30. Enjoy dinner music and dancing to the Roseville Big Band until 10:00. Then go upstairs to the Garden Court for the dessert buffet and dance until 1:00 a.m. to music by Cookie Coleman for Club Lucky in the Great River Ballroom. If you would like to receive an invitation or you need more information, call the Ball Hotline, (651) 220-6644. $150 per person, $75 junior (21-35 years of age). Year 2003 Roseville Big Band Sit-in Nights:

Tuesday, April 8, in the cafeteria at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 1660 W. Co. Rd. B in Roseville, about a block and a half west of Snelling Ave. N., 7:30-9:30 p.m.

At this sit-in night, twelve instrumentalists joined the regular Roseville Big Band members for an evening of playing a variety of music, from Miles Davis' "Four" to trumpeter Tim Altmann's new arrangement of "Tico-Tico."

Tuesday, October 21, in the cafeteria at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Eight of the 14 instrumentalists who joined the regular members of the band for this sit-in night were saxophonists. What a rich sound the sax section had that night! The music for the sit-in included Mike Bratlie's original composition "Casa del Sol," standards such as "Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries," and several others.
